In December 2019, the St. Petersburg State Academic Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre will be presenting the premiere of The Queen of Spades ballet, staged by the talented choreographer Iñaki Urlezaga (Argentina) and an all-star creative team.
The choreographer and ballet master has already arrived to St. Petersburg, where he was invited by the Theatre's art director, Andrian Fadeev. And only just recently, we held the very first rehearsals in our Rotunda. Our world-famous guest practised with our principal dancers and members of the corps de ballet. Iñaki Urlezaga, former principal of the Royal Ballet in London and the Teatro Colón in Argentina, has enjoyed a highly successful creative career, performing at the world's topmost ballet venues and combining his pursuits as a dancer with those of a choreographer since 2003. Some of his notable works include Sylvia (music by Léo Delibes), Chopin's Fairy-Tales (music by Frédéric Chopin), The Nutcracker (music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky), La Traviata (music by Giuseppe Verdi), and Swan Lake (music by Pyotr Tchaikovsky). From 2013 to 2018, Urlezaga headed Argentina's National Ballet (Ballet Nacional de Argentina). He is currently getting ready to retire as a performer and fully dedicate himself to professional choreography.
