Starting from February 19, members of the Leonid Yacobson Ballet Company will rehearse for the premiere performance: Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, staged by Jean-Guillaume Bart, a renowned French danseur, choreographer, and teacher. The performance is to be accompanied by an orchestra.

From January 19 to February 4, the Leonid Yacobson Ballet Company toured across Switzerland and France with its classical rendition of Giselle, as well as with this season's premiere show, the One-Act Ballet Recital, which comprised the Chopiniana choreographic suite, Grand pas from Paquita, and The Rehearsal ballet.

From December 9 to 28, our theatrical company was away on an ambitious tour across Japan, giving the audiences in seven cities an opportunity to see the classical rendition of The Nutcracker. In addition, our soloists contributed to two gala concerts in Tokyo.

The One-act Ballet Recital, the first premiere of the 47th season, took place on October 28 on the Main Stage of the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre. The event combined two classical ballets, which had been meticulously recreated by the theatre's tutors, and a completely new performance, showcasing modern choreography.

A renewed rendition of this classical ballet, with original choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, premièred on June 2, at the main stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre. Especially for the Yacobson Theatre, the theatre designer Vyacheslav Okunev came up with a picturesque set and exquisite costumes.

During the Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre's tour to Minsk, the local audience will get a chance to see this season's premiere — Sergey Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet ballet, directed by Igor Konyaev (who also wrote the new libretto) and staged by the choreographer Anton Pimonov.

Classics in the Palace Square, a grand gala starring the paragons of the Russian and international opera world, took place in the evening of May 24, against the perfect architectural backdrop of Saint-Petersburg's main square. The Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre contributed to four concerted numbers and to the gala's finale.

Stony Bank, a one-act ballet by Vladimir Varnava, will premiere at the Hermitage Theatre venue on May 13. The ballet's original music score was composed by Aleksandr Karpov. The set and costumes, in turn, are the responsibility of the talented artist Olga Shaishmelashvili, while the lighting is being designed by Igor Fomin.

May 3 is the birthday of Askold Anatolievich Makarov: People's Artist of the USSR; an outstanding dancer, ballet master, and teacher; holder of the USSR State Award, the Order of Friendship, and the Order of Honour; president of the Saint-Petersburg Union of Concert Artists; and member of the World Club of Petersburgers.
