Don Quixote, a St. Petersburg Leonid Yacobson Theatre show staged by Johan Kobborg, will play at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre on March 26, during the Golden Mask Theatre Festival.
The honour of contributing to the Festival under the auspices of the Golden Mask National Theatre Award — which is turning 25 this year — has fallen to the most notable productions of the 2017–2018 season. We are happy to say that our Theatre's vibrant ballet premiere from last season is also among them.
The expert judging panel of the Golden Mask National Theatre Award has recognised the outstanding achievements of Johan Kobborg's Don Quixote by awarding it as many as seven nominations: Ballet/Best Production; Ballet — Contemporary Dance/Best Ballet Master/Best Choreographer (Johan Kobborg); Ballet — Contemporary Dance/Best Actress (Sofia Matyushenskaya as Kitri); Ballet — Contemporary Dance/Best Actor (Tasman Davids as Gamache, Andrey Sorokin as Basilio); and Musical Theatre/Best Designer and Musical Theatre/Best Costume Designer (Jérôme Kaplan).
The Russian theatre professionals and the Moscow public will be able to see this critically acclaimed show late this March.
The winners of the Golden Mask National Theatre Award will be announced on April 16, 2019, at the Bolshoi Theatre's historical venue.
