53rd Season of the Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre
The St. Petersburg State Academic Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre, headed by Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation Andrian Fadeev, is ushering in its 53rd season with two performances at the historic venue of the Mariinsky Theatre. In early October, we will also present our Choreographic Masterpieces by Leonid Yacobson programme during the Golden Mask Festival in two locations in the Russian region of Karelia: Petrozavodsk and Kostomuksha.
The 53rd season at the Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre will start on 25 September, when the troupe will perform Giselle on the Mariinsky Theatre's historic stage. The titular role will be played by Alla Bocharova, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation. Stepan Dyomin will play Count Albert. The next item on the playbill is Johan Kobborg's rendition of Don Quixote, which we will show to the public at Mariinsky on 27 September. It will star Elena Chernova and Andrey Sorokin. We will play The Nutcracker at the same venue on 11 October.
The Theatre will also welcome the new season by taking part in two projects run by the Golden Mask National Theatre Award and Festival.
On 7 October, we will appear at the Musical Theatre of the Republic of Karelia in Petrozavodsk with the Choreographic Masterpieces by Leonid Yacobson programme; then, we'll take the same programme to Kostomuksha on 9 October. The troupe is working hard to get ready for its tour: Tatyana Kvasova, Valentina Klimova, Vera Solovyeva, Nikolay Levitsky, and Valery Sergeyev, all of whom used to work under Yacobson himself, are now helping the young dancers practise their mentor's choreographic miniatures. The goal is to restore three miniatures from the Rodin cycle in time for the performances in Karelia.
On 16 and 18 October, we will be taking Don Quixote to Riga, Latvia. Another Latvian city, Ventspils, will see a special gala in honour of the 15th anniversary of the local branch of the Golden Mask Festival.
The first half of the season is promising to be quite action-packed! On 12 and 13 November, our theatre will travel to Manama, the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain, for the first time. We will be touring with The Sleeping Beauty. As part of an ongoing cooperation with the Mariinsky Theatre, we will also put on shows at its branches in Vladivostok and Vladikavkaz. The Mariinsky Theatre's Primorsky venue will host three Don Quixote shows on 19 and 20 November, during the Grand Tour programme.
The Leonid Yacobson Ballet Company is entering the 53rd season with renewed vigour. Our troupe has been bolstered by alumni of Russia's best choreographic schools..
